Alexandra Watson, Counselor Intern

About Alexandra
Alex Watson is a student intern practicing under the oversight of licensed supervisors. She is currently completing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine. She has received training in the Townsend Model for Competence and Character Growth, a model of therapy developed by Dr. John Townsend that aims to heal the deeper roots of personal, relational, and professional difficulties by transforming one’s internal character structure.
Alex’s approach to counseling is based in attachment science, object relations, and existential theory. She believes healing happens in a safe relationship that provides both grace and truth, and she seeks to offer these not as an expert but as a fellow traveler walking alongside you on the painful and confusing paths of life. She also agrees with the words of Viktor Frankl: “those “who have a ‘why’ to live can bear with almost any ‘how.’”
Prior to attending graduate school, Alex received a Bachelor’s degree in Intercultural Studies and TESOL from John Brown University. She previously worked as an English teacher and has additional experience volunteering with immigrants and refugees who have experienced war and persecution. As someone with a bicultural upbringing, she especially enjoys working with those who desire to understand how cultural factors might be affecting their understanding of themselves or their relationships.
